Let's discuss 7 Moons Hotel:

1. Many of the novel's biggest revelations happen early or are foreshadowed heavily. How did that affect the tension for you? Would the story have been more impactful if certain plot twists had been revealed later, or did the early reveals serve another purpose?

2. The protagonist experiences significant events in a relatively short span of time. Did you feel you truly understood their motivations, fears, and growth by the end of the novel? What moments, if any, would you have expanded to create a stronger emotional connection?

3. Several supporting characters play important roles in moving the plot forward. Which character did you most want to know more about? What additional backstory, relationships, or scenes would have made them feel more fully realized?

4. The novel balances mystery, fantasy, and emotional themes, but often prioritizes moving the story forward. Do you think the fast pacing came at the expense of character development? If you could add one chapter anywhere in the book, where would you place it and what would it explore?

5. Looking back at the novel as a whole, which emotional moments felt earned, and which felt rushed because the characters or relationships hadn't been developed enough? How might deeper characterization have changed your reaction to the ending?

Our July-August 2026 Book Club Pick is These Eternal Bones by Maggie Fern!

I have A LOT going on this month (updates soon!) which will undoubtedly impede upon my usual reading schedule, so I've decided to give myself 2 months to read this book instead of just one. That means there will not be a book club poll for August, and we'll resume doing that in September.

You'd be surprised how difficult it was to find gothic fantasy penned by indie authors! After scouring TikTok, I'm glad I was able to find a few. Fair warning about this pick: it is labeled as a dark vampire romance, so if you're not into that, this may not be the book for you.

I'm about 70% of the way through our June book club pick and I'm really enjoying the premise so far. I didn't realize that this book was so short (just shy of 200 pages per my Kindle), so I'm definitely getting through it faster than some of the previous books we've read. With that said, I'm not sure how the story is going to wrap up with so little remaining, but I'm trusting the process! I would love to know: How's your reading progress coming along?

Now that I've finally finished reading The Perfect Neighbors, let's go ahead and dive into the discussion questions!

1. Olivia spends much of the novel observing the Berkley family while hiding secrets of her own. How did your opinion of Olivia change throughout the story, and did you ultimately find her trustworthy or sympathetic?

2. The novel explores the contrast between public appearances and private realities. Which character do you think was best at maintaining a façade, and what does the book suggest about “perfect” suburban communities?

3. Tess, Ethan, and Gracie each reveal different signs that something is wrong inside the Berkley household. Which relationship or family dynamic stood out to you most, and why?

4. The story slowly builds tension before delivering several dark twists near the end. Did the pacing work for you? Were there clues you picked up on early, or did the ending completely surprise you?

5. A major theme in the book is isolation—many characters seem lonely even while surrounded by neighbors and community. How does loneliness influence the choices characters make throughout the novel?

I know I fell off the face of the earth in April, but it was for good reason. I exhibited at BookCon last month (with my husband) for the first time since they shut their doors in 2020, and let me tell you, it was a TIME. I sold out of my newest release, ALL WE KEEP HIDDEN, before noon on the second day, which was absolutely phenomenal. My husband and I arrived a day early for registration and check-in, which allowed for some much-deserved "couple time" in Central Park. We definitely did this trip justice with first class flights, upscale dinners every night, and Uber Black transportation ,which might seem over the top to some, however, this was our first trip away together in THREE YEARS. It was also our first overnight trip away from the babies. So yeah, go big or go home.

Between BookCon, my birthday, Mother's Day, teacher appreciation week, and all of the end-of-year celebrations for school, I feel like I haven't been able to come up for air. Needless to say, I haven't quite finished our April Book Club read, but I am 70% of the way through and definitely plan to finish it before the end of this month so we can start fresh with a new indie book come June! I know our first Book Club read was fantasy and we're reading a thriller right now, so I'm kind of thinking to kick off summer, we could find a cozy mystery or cozy contemporary romance. If you have any indie recommendations in either of these categories, let me know!
